The Breakdown: What to Buy for Spring

I learned early on that preparation is key during my days as a Girl Scout. Collect the kindling, nurture the fire, yield toasty marshmallows. Simple as that. I’ve applied this same logic to the spring season and gotten an early start on narrowing down what I want to add to my wardrobe. Here are the items I’ve delegated as my spring must-haves thus far. Now go, make s’mores.

That 70s Skirt

The laid back chic vibe of the 70s is back with a vengeance for spring straight on through fall — from fringe and flares to wedges and platforms. I plan to add an a-line skirt in denim or suede to my wardrobe, pair it with a crisp white shirt and do my best Jane Birkin.

In the Trenches

This season the classic trench gets a lightweight spin fit for a toss-on-and-go feel. I, for one, can’t wait to get my hands on a dusty pink version and layer it over jean shorts and stacked espadrilles for warm weekend activities.

Veer Off

Drop it low this spring with a structured off the shoulder top. In summers past, this look has been associated with hippie silhouettes better suited for Coachella than a day at the office. Shape up with structured detailing and pair your pick with a wide leg trouser to get the job done.
