If you have been following along on my Instagram, you already know that I got engaged last Friday (!!!). I have always joked with Chris that he would never be able to genuinely surprise me, because I always figure out what’s going on, one way or the other. But, he definitely proved me wrong. Check out this post to learn a bit more about Chris & I, and scroll down to read how it all went down…
Midweek last week, my boss called me into her office and told me to take the afternoon off on Friday, because I had been working so hard. It had been a busy couple of weeks, so I gladly took her up on the offer. I made plans to meet up with my girlfriend, who suggested we go to Shake Shack in Dumbo, because they had their famous concrete in the flavor she loves. In hindsight, all of this was a bit random, but I still had no idea.
En route to meet her, my stomach started hurting, so I texted her when I got out of the subway to have her meet me at my apartment instead. Little did I know, this threw Chris’s plan to propose underneath the Brooklyn Bridge (near said Shake Shack) into a total tailspin.
When I get to the front door of our apartment building, Chris was standing outside on the phone. I thought he was on a business call, but, of course, he was talking to my friend who told him to sprint from Shake Shack to our place to intercept me. I walked up and was insistent on going upstairs for Advil, and he was trying to get me to do a picture of my outfit before the sun went down (such a good Instagram husband!!). He was so insistent that it finally clicked what he was doing, and I said “Ohhhh this is happening now!!”
He walked me down to the waterfront, and said “You are such a nightmare sometimes, but I love you.” Then, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes and all of the people on the waterfront started cheering. As if that wasn’t amazing enough, we turned to walk back to our apartment, and my whole family had flown in from Tennessee. They had watched the entire proposal, and we were able to celebrate with them all weekend. Little did I know, Chris had gone to Tennessee to ask my Dad in person when I was on a work trip!
It was better than I ever could have imagined, and I just happened to have this white cape dress lying around for our celebratory dinner. What, this old thing??
Lavish Alice cape (sold out, available in green here), Gigi New York bag, Charlotte Olympia shoes, Kelly Wearstler necklace
I LOVE that he flew to Tennessee when you were on a work trip! That is just so freaking wonderful, go Chris.
Also I don’t believe that you had that lying around. You pre-bought it for this very moment. Also I have a similar dress that I wore for my rehearsal dinner!
Love it and love you guys. Congrats BRIDE!!
