Whether your friends are coming over to watch The Bachelorette or to play Cards Against Humanity, it’s nice to have a few things around to snack on and a zen space to relax. Here are my easy entertaining tips for pulling together a quick and easy gathering, without breaking the bank.
Light candles to create an ambiance. Ever since moving in with Chris, I am always on the hunt for a slightly more androgynous candle to light. Some of my favorites the Cannabis and Dark Rum candles by Malin & Goetz and the French Tulip candle by Seda France.
Pick up some flowers from a bodega or the grocery store. Whole Foods always has a great selection, like these peonies for ten dollars, plus the deli on my street sells 24 roses for 15 dollars. With prices like these, it’s so easy to turn my entire living room around.
Put together a quick accoutrements tray. Rather than slaving over the stove when guests arrive, I throw meats and cheeses from the deli on a simple platter from Crate & Barrel, along with olives, tomatoes, a fig jam and my favorite pickled green beans.
Pick up some rosé. Everyone’s favorite summer wine works for any last minute gathering, plus how adorable is this bottle stopper?
Make a simple summer dessert. I have loved strawberry shortcake since I was a little girl and use this recipe by Martha Stewart. For a little something extra, I add a dash of almond extract to the dough before baking the biscuits.
