More than any season, there’s such a feeling of nostalgia that comes along with the turn of fall. The crisp, cool air always brings me right back to my favorite autumnal memories from years past. From weekend getaways to the Catskills to apple picking and fireside hangouts, there’s just nothing better than the fall season in my book. Not to mention, it’s my absolute favorite time to get dressed. Boots, sweaters, jackets, leather—what’s not to love? I’m particularly excited for this year, because it brings the arrival of our twins. Hopefully, it will also mean that I’ll be able to dress myself a bit more easily as my body slowly recovers from pregnancy. We’ll see about that, but either way, I’m excited to share the top five fall pieces I can’t wait to wear this season—regardless of size.
1. Leather Everything
This is an obvious choice for any fall shopping list, but I am really excited about the out-of-the-box iterations of leather that are popping up everywhere. A great pair of black leather pants are a given, but what about an unexpected lilac pair of pants, a color block leather dress or a cool button-down shirt?
2. Chunky Boots
This is the must-have shoe for fall 2020, because we’ll all likely be spending more time in casual outfits. As much as I love a chic heeled boot (as seen here and here), I probably won’t prioritize these on my fall shopping list this year. The lug sole shape, popularized by Bottega Venetta and Prada last year, is here to stay, and there are so many options at every price point this year. I love that they pair just as well with chic dresses and tailored pants as they do with sweat sets.
3. Cool Cardigans
When I hear the term “sweater sets,” I think of the old-school, dorky sweaters from the ’90s worn by teachers and choir directors alike, but this season’s cardigans and sweater sets have had a major makeover. My favorite styles are knit tank tops with coordinating cardigans, and I can’t wait to wear them with my favorite high-waisted jeans when I can fit in them again.

4. High-Waisted Pants & Jeans
Speaking of high-waisted jeans, this shopping list wouldn’t be complete without a round-up of great pants and jeans that I have my eye on for the new season. I used to be such a dress girl, but over the last few years, I have found my weekday uniform in a great pair of pants paired with a simple black or white top. I can’t wait to be back in this outfit, and there are so many chic pants on the market at the moment.
5. The Mini Dress
For this season, I’m loving feminine, mini dresses to pair with aforementioned lug sole boots. It’s just such a cool and unexpected combination. I’m also considering these forgiving silhouettes my pièce de résistance for the upcoming months when I’ll be slowly, but surely, recovering from pregnancy. Bring on the volume.
