I have been on a bit of a fall decor spree this week to give our place a touch of autumnal vibes before the babies arrive. I added pumpkins to our dining table bowl, ordered some pampas grass for the living room and Urban Stems sent some beautiful arrangements from their fall collection to spruce up our apartment. I’m so obsessed with having fresh flowers in our place and love that they have so many beautiful bouquet options that can be delivered within one day in chic vases. It’s such a game-changer, especially if you’re doing last-minute entertaining this season. Who has time to arrange grocery store flowers when your friends are coming over last minute?
Though I love sprucing up our place, I wanted to call on an expert to give you some proper advice for upgrading your decor and entertaining pieces for the new season. That’s where my friend and talented designer, Becca Casey of Becca Interiors, comes in. She designed our old apartment for us (which you can see here), and she just launched a new digital storefront called Ayr Barns for beautifully curated home goods. Here, I’m sharing her tips for giving your space an unbasic fall touch (no pumpkin spice doormats here, folks!). Hopefully, you’ll find inspiration for a mood-lifting decor tweak to make your next small gathering sing.
1. Incorporate darker foliage for a subtle nod to fall
“I’m especially fond of flowers this time of year, as they help to keep the home bright and full of new life as the days grow shorter and the temperatures grow cooler. I love that this array from Urban Stems acts as a reflection of the colors of the leaves outdoors as they cycle through their various hues, welcoming a time where we embrace cozy nights spent indoors.”
2. Anchor your table with chic plates
“As I exchange the days of outdoor dining for evenings at home with friends, I’m a firm believer that a plate can be the unsung hero of any dinner party. I’ve found the charming imperfections of our hand-hewn farmhouse plates to be the subtle touch for any meal, making each gathering as unique as the plates I use to serve my loved ones.”
3. When in doubt, add mood lighting
“I find there are few things more romantic than candlelight during the autumn months. It is no surprise, then, that I keep a regular stock of our Glass Votives handy for when inspiration strikes. Personally, I like to keep a few stashed appropriately through-out the house (bathrooms, dens, kitchens) so they are readily available if I ever feel the urge to have a dinner beside a candle’s warm glow, or soak away the chill of fall in a warm bath.”
4. Upgrade your serving ware
“I love to create harvest salads of gorgeous colors in our Grain Salad Bowl. It is a wonderfully raw fixture in any kitchen, whether used to store seasonal produce or as a part of my tableware when prepping a meal; it also serves beautifully when kneading dough come autumn.”
5. Save your wine in style
“Wine has long been the best way to compliment a cozy autumn evening with friends. Our Oak Bottle Stoppers have since become as close to me as the friends who visit; preserving not only whatever (if any) wine is left over from the night, but the memories as well. I always recommend keeping a few on hand for tasting nights.”
