All of the designer pieces in my wardrobe have a story behind them – usually a sale score. This Dries Van Noten jacket, for instance, presented itself at my first visit to the Barney’s Warehouse Sale when I moved to New York four hot summers ago. I debated back and forth on whether to buy it and even used my phone-a-friend lifeline on the decision. In the end, the mix of patterns, mirrored detailing and cropped length won me over. This was the beginning of my firm belief in building a wardrobe of truly special investment pieces. Pair them with budget pieces for a high-low recipe or pile them all on at once for a decadent, mid-week dessert.
