There’s something so energizing about sitting in New York cafés watching people come and go—feeling inspired by their personal style, their hustle and their overheard conversations. As a rite of passage in New York, I have fallen in love with sitting in coffee shops, cafés and hotel lobbies to work on my laptop, meet with other creatives and fuel up on caffeine. I always feel like I can get so much more done if I’m out in public—everyone else’s productivity holds me accountable for my own. Here’s a few of my favorite New York cafés for work, play and everything in between.
1. Best Banana Bread: Café Dante
This is one of my absolute favorite spots in the city for it’s cozy interiors, delicious banana bread and amazing location in the heart of the West Village. I recommend going here early on weekend mornings before the city is awake to snag a table in this small spot. Bonus: the colorful townhouses across the street are perfect for a post-meal Instagram snap.
2. Chicest Interiors: Felix Roasting Co
Prepare to be in awe of the incredible interiors of this new coffee and booze spot on Park Avenue. The space was designed by Ken Fulk, and they serve standard caffeinated drinks and coffee-based cocktails. Why didn’t I think of this?
3. Most Instagrammable: Lroom Café
This café near Union Square has deserts shaped like lemons and oranges (seriously!), glitter lattes and a flower wall. While you might not get much work done here, it’s a fun place to visit on the weekend with friends, or if you’re visiting New York from out of town.
4. Best for the Coffee Junkie: Devocion
Devocion has three locations in the city, but I love the one in Williamsburg for it’s convenience to our apartment. By New York standards, it’s huge, which increases your chances of getting a seat, plus the Colombian coffee is delicious.
5. Best for Multi-tasking: La Mercerie
As a coffee and interior design enthusiast, I absolutely love this spot. I can pop in for a coffee, pick up new dish towels from the interiors shop and leave with a bouquet from the flower stall. It’s also a great place to have coffee meetings for work or for fun.
