Just a few days ago, I woke up and realized that Memorial Day is right around the corner, and I should probably find my fitness motivation quickly to feel as confident as possible for that first splash. During summer, I absolutely love escaping the city to find a pool, beach or oasis of any kind, and want to look my best in all the chic summer pieces I have my eye on. Outside of the obvious routine of working out more and trying to eat less gummy bears and takeout, I thought I’d share 5 ways I’m finding motivation to get fit this season.
1. Fresh Workout Gear
If I have cool new gear, it’s on. Thanks to my budget-friendly obsessions of the moment—Beyonce’s Ivy Park and Forever 21’s activewear—this doesn’t have to require a large chunk of change. I can go from stuck in bed to feeling myself, for less than $20.
2. Mix Up Your Workouts
If you have been following along with me on Snapchat or Instagram, you know that I have been changing up the classes I’m attending a lot. I discovered 305 Fitness, which is essentially a dance party set to club lighting and a live DJ, and can’t get enough. I’ve also been sprinkling in some boxing at Shadowbox and highly recommend getting that you get on the boxing train. Prepare to be sore for days.
3. Dream of Cute Swimwear
Anytime I feel like skipping a sweat sesh, I remind myself of all the swimwear hiding under my bed. From high-waisted bikinis to one-pieces with a personality, all I have to do is imagine my less-than-toned bod on the beach in them and I’m off an running.
4. Make Your Food at Home
To me, eating healthy goes hand-in-hand with finding the motivation to workout. If I eat pizza or a doughnut, it can turn into a spiral of chilling on the couch and skimping on gym time. You would think it would be opposite, but not for me. Lately, my favorite healthy meal is a turkey burger (made with this easy recipe) and a Southwestern-inspired salad of black beans, corn, bell peppers and red onion. Finish it off with a bit of Greek yogurt and lemon juice, and you’re halfway to skinny already.
5. Watch Kourtney Kardashian’s Snapchat
No, but seriously. When all else fails take a scroll through your Instagram or peruse Snapchat for other fit babes that are killing the game. Some of my go-to inspirational gals are Hannah Bronfman, Jen Selter, and, of course, the queen of the revenge body. If Kourtney can look like this after three kids, surely I can get my ass to the gym.
