With NYFW in the rearview mirror and spring (hopefully) right around the corner, I dug back into the archives from the Spring / Summer ‘19 shows to find the five spring trends I can’t wait to wear. I’m dreaming of wearing floaty white dresses and cool girl girl suiting, as well as some more innovative trends like bike shorts and and cargo pants. Here, see what made my list, plus shop some early spring arrivals I’ve rounded up from around the web.
1. Bright & Printed Suiting
The historically serious sets are having all the fun this season in bright colors and printed fabrics. If you’re only investing in one trend this season, I’d say go for a great suit for their versatility and styling possibilities. Wear the whole suit together for a wedding or event with a great pair of statement earrings, and wear the pants and blazer separately to get extra mileage out of your investment. No matter where you’re going, you can’t go wrong with this uber-chic look.
2. Chic White Dresses
This is more of a forever classic than a trend, but I miss wearing easy white dresses so much during the winter months that I had to include them on this list. Like me, you probably already have a couple hanging in your closet, but if you’re in the market for a new season update, I’ve rounded up a few chic options below.
3. Bike Shorts
I dipped my toe into the bike shorts trend last summer, but they are absolutely here to stay for the season ahead. They came down the runway in every iteration from utilitarian styling at Fendi to fun prints and metallic options at Chanel and Chloé. I can’t wait to dress up the long shorts with blazers, belted shirting and, of course, a great pair of heels. If you’re less inclined to wear Spandex in public (no judgement), I’ve included some denim and suiting options as well.
4. Bohemian Prints
Paisley, scarf prints and bandana-inspired patterns are the official alternative to florals this seaosn—for once, actually groundbreaking. I am absolutely obsessed with Zimmermann’s pink bandana print dress and paisley maxi dress, but while I’m patiently awaiting these pieces to go on sale I’ll opt for one of the other options below.
5. Luxe Cargo Pants
Cargo pants are back in a big way, and I’m obsessed with the luxe-meets-sporty vibe of these 2019 iterations. Unlike the pants that came before them, they are high-waisted and feminine—just add a chic crop top and heels for all spring nights out on the town.
