Often times, women’s suiting gets a sad, 90s-secretary-esque reputation. Think: more dowdy and unflattering and less like Cara Delevingne’s impossibly chic red carpet uniform. But have no fear, I’m here to make the case for summer suiting with a much more free-spirited persona.
In my opinion, the key to making this look work is building out an ensemble with simple separates you are likely to already have in your closet. Here, I started with my trusty leather shorts and added a camisole with a touch of lace. To finish the look, I tossed on a white boyfriend blazer and pumps to match, but would also recommend adding a light, textured jacket or a longline vest depending on the temperature. Of course, this version of the suit isn’t office appropriate, but it’s perfect for all of the hot summer nights ahead.

a-listed tip | Trade fall and winter’s nude suede pumps for a crisp white pair that’s sure to keep you looking chic long after Labor Day has come and gone. These are actually the first white pumps I’ve ever owned, and I’m already getting so much use out of them. Thanks to my girl, Rachel Zoe.
